Relocating to Suzhou – A High-Quality Ecosystem for Medical Device Industry Development

Located in the city of Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, at the core of the Yangtze River Delta, one of China’s most dynamic and developed economic regions, Suzhou enjoys a superior geographical location, with only 20 minutes by high-speed rail to Shanghai. It has a strong industrial foundation in healthcare, biotechnology, and equipment manufacturing. The Suzhou government has introduced multiple policies to encourage and support the development of the exhibition industry. As an open and modern metropolis that fully showcases the vitality of 21st-century China, Suzhou is an excellent choice for Medtec to temporarily relocate from Shanghai.

Policy support for the medical device industry: Suzhou is a fertile ground for the medical device industry, enjoying policy, industrial cluster, and supply chain advantages in the cultivation of this sector. For more than a decade, Suzhou High-tech District has focused on building the optimal ecosystem for medical device industry development. The district has gathered more than 700 medical device-related enterprises, with a focus on medical robots, medical imaging equipment, testing equipment, and diagnostic reagents. The industry’s annual output value has maintained a growth rate of around 30% for many consecutive years.

High-tech and R&D enterprises cluster: In 2020, the total annual output value reached 20 billion RMB. There are 84 enterprises including various unicorns under cultivation and gazelle/gazelle-cultivation enterprises, and 31 enterprises have obtained approval for R&D centers at or above the municipal level. Yuwell, Sinopharm Tech Holdings, Lepu Medical, Hengrui Medical and other well-known domestic enterprises are gathered here , with 68 high-tech enterprises in the park. They collectively hold 820 Class II or Class III medical device registration certificates, and nearly 200 CE certificates (EU safety conformity certification) and FDA certificates (U.S. Food and Drug Administration certification). In terms of intellectual property, they hold a total of 2,571 IP rights of various types.

Solid foundation for industry–academia–research integration: The High-tech District has gathered a number of specialized scientific research institutes and platforms, including Suzhou Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Suzhou Research Institute of Southeast University Medical Device; Suzhou Collaborative Innovation Medical Robot Institute; and Guoqian Medical Technology Innovation Research Institute , which lay a solid foundation for cooperation among industry, academia, and research, and empower the industry to improve quality and efficiency.

Cluster of Fortune Global 500 medical device enterprises: Suzhou has attracted a large number of Fortune Global 500-backed foreign enterprises engaged in medical device manufacturing, including Johnson & Johnson, Medtronic, Philips, DuPont, Baxter, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Asahi Kasei, Hitachi, Saint-Gobain, Siemens, Fresenius and others.

This year is the first year for the implementation of the “Work Plan for Promoting the Development of High-End Medical Device Industry Innovation Clusters in Suzhou High-tech District (2022–2024)”, and the district is now moving at full speed towards building a world-class high-end medical device industry innovation cluster. After careful consideration of pros and cons, the organizer has decided to temporarily relocate the event to Suzhou, believing that this fertile land for high-end medical device innovation and R&D will bring unique opportunities and exciting experiences to all participants of the exhibition.

New Venue, New Experience

Suzhou International Expo Center – Four Interconnected Halls for an Optimized Visiting Experience

In 2022, the scale of Medtec has expanded to 33,000 m², an increase of nearly 18% compared with last year. After relocating to Suzhou International Expo Center, the exhibition will use all four halls B1–E1 on Level 1.

The four halls B1–E1 are all interconnected, allowing visitors to easily start their tour from either end without leaving the exhibition area, and enjoy a full view of exhibitors and their exhibits along the way. Inside the halls, there will be rest areas, business negotiation areas, refreshment areas, and conference/activity zones, putting the concept of convenient visiting experience into every detail.

Suzhou International Expo Center is located in the core CBD area of Suzhou Industrial Park, adjacent to Jinji Lake. It offers convenient access to metro and bus services, as well as hotels, high-end commercial complexes, and cultural tourism attractions that can be reached within a 5–10 minute walk.

In recent years, Medtec has continued to grow steadily, with the exhibition scale constantly expanding. More than 800 brands have confirmed their participation, with the number of new brands increasing by 32% compared with last year. Renowned brands such as 3M, Covestro, Momentive, Lubrizol, Mikron, Coherent, TRUMPF, LEMO, Celanese, TA Instruments, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Lepu Science & Technology and others will all be present. Nearly 120 high-end active medical equipment suppliers will showcase together, helping drive innovation and breakthroughs in domestically produced high-end medical equipment.

During the same period, more than 15 conferences and events will be held on site, featuring over 80 industry experts delivering presentations. It is expected that more than 7,000 medical device enterprises will register to visit, and nearly 40,000 professional buyers will attend. The organizer is doing its utmost to ensure that this relocation to Suzhou will bring exhibitors and visitors a high-quality show and an excellent travel experience.
